RIP to Oscar and his girlfriend. Such sad news to hear. And so much promise lost. I enjoyed his pinch hit home runs and was looking forward to seeing him as a regular next year. But alas, it is not to be.

I’m a long time Cardinals fan. I also have a daughter who is only a year older than Oscar. (She was out of town and has a long drive to make home, herself.) So it hits hard.

Future Clemente award winner, 500 home run club, all start at least 5 times, mvp at least once, World Series winner, possible hall of famer. Taveras more than likely had all of these stars in line for him in his blossoming career. As well as lymon bostick in the 80s. Both players taken too soon through unfortunate car accidents (bostick shot in head in Gary Indiana). Most likely because God realized he created perfect players and human beings. If there was any way to bring them back to life, or at least have another player like those two who doesn’t die after his first year, I hope the baseball world will get lucky and pull through with this feat. Having such a young and delightful man being taken too soon is just one of the largest shames that can ever happen to this world and the ones who love them. RIP at the field of dreams Oscar and show Ruth and Mantle the power that youngsters of the 21st century.

“I am convinced that God wanted me to be a baseball player. I was born to play baseball.” – Roberto Clemente

I believe you were born to play baseball, Oscar, and I believe that you will keep playing baseball. I believe you will smell that fresh cut grass again, I believe you will swing that beautiful swing again, I believe that all of the baseball stars who have come before are awaiting your arrival and will greet you with a fresh uniform, a just-broken-in enough glove, and smiles almost as big as yours. Go get ’em.

    Rest in peace.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Oscar’s family, his girlfriend’s family and all of Cardinal Nation. Such a tragedy. Another young life taken way too soon. I was so looking forward to watching him grow and become the superstar we knew he could be. I will always remember his pinch hit home run in the NLCS. Rest in peace Oscar. Thanks for letting us share the successes of your way too short mlb career.

Oscar was a promising star, and was due for a fantastic career, no matter how much trash we talked about him in his short time in the spotlight. He was proclaimed the hope and future of the Cardinals, the next Albert Pujols. But, above all, a young 22-year-old man and his 18-year old girlfriend had their lives tragically ended, God only knowing that they would leave us so soon. As I’m sure he’d want, the Cardinals will play on. The Cardinals will win ballgames. Heated rivalries will remain heated. Life in Cardinal Nation will be normal again. But today, we mourn such a terrible tragedy. So, Oscar, thank you, farewell, and Godspeed. You’ll always have a special place in the heart of Cardinals fans privileged enough to have seen you play. Rest in peace.

Reds fan here- I can’t help but be sad for the Cardinals and Oscar’s family. I’m truly sorry I won’t get to see him playing against the Reds for years to come, even though I know he most likely would be beating them. I can only imagine how this tragedy is affecting anyone who was looking forward to being his fan for years to come.

First and foremost my condolences to you and your girlfriend family. You have brought me a lot of joy throughout the years, just following you through your career in the minor leagues. The excitement of thinking about all of the happy moments you were to provide the entire cardinals fan base. Regardless of the baseball part of things, your smile will never be forgotten and I will cease to think of “what could have been” and think of exactly who you were. RIP OT18.

Oscar, you were such a shining star, not only as a player, but as a much needed role model. Your smile and your laughter from the dugout will linger in my heart. You will continue to enlighten and encourage your teammates throughout their careers and personal lives by the joy you displayed. You will continue to brighten your family’s days and nights as they remember the happiness and the love that you gave to them. My thoughts and prayers will be with them and Edilia’s family for as long as they need to feel them.
